Italy France Rematch of Final Wednesday

September 4, 2006

world-cup-final-soccer-ball-goldThe football gods were too kind when the fixtures for Euro 2008 were created.

Italy v France in a rematch of the World Cup Final from just two months ago?!

You would think it a stitch-up. But alas, it is really on the schedule.

For English supporters, the kickoff matches perfectly to England v FYR Macedonia, so you’ll either need two tvs and two dishes, or the local pub will.world-cup-2006.jpg

Kaka Video Goal Brazil v Argentine Golazo!

September 4, 2006

brazil-soccer-ball.gifWhen Kaka stole the ball from Lionel Messi 80-some yards from goal, it would have been hard to imagine the Brazilian racing the length of the pitch and firing past Argentine goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri.

But that is exactly what the brilliant AC Milan midfielder did, as Brazil finished off a 3 – 0 victory over their South American rivals.

In all fairness, Argentina had the better of Brazil for large portions of the match after the first half-hour, but the 5-time World Champions went ahead early and played the counter the rest of the way.

New West Ham striker Carlos Tevez played very well and 18 year-old striker Sergio Aguero was brilliant with the Albicelestes left to rue missed opportunities and poor finishing.

Elano scored twice for Brazil, but it is for his unforgettable dash to greatness that Kaka receives my Golazo! Golazo! Golazo! Award.
