England Frustration Growing

The backlash to Steve McClaren’s new-look squad begins, as the loss to Croatia sinks in.

England could be as low as fourth after the next Euro 08 qualifiers, as they have a game in hand and do not play.

The next five months will be stressful indeed as questions are being asked of the new regime.

Here are some of the highlights:

Keeper Paul Robinson is blamed for the bad turf as a backpass hops his foot for an own-goal.

McClaren hints he will use younger players from the recently successful Under-21s. A move that suggests he doesn’t truly believe his tactics have caused the poor form, as he has stated, but rather it is his players that are to blame.

McClaren’s adviser Max Clifford seems to have a say in the England squad. Reads more like a leftover script from “Footballer’s Wives” than a BBC article about the national squad.
