Chelsea 1 – 1 Aston Villa
Some suspect officiating from Graham Poll leaves Aston Villa with a well-deserved point. Juan Pablo Angel gets behind the defense and carries Claude Makelele on his back with no card nor foul given. Villa’s Gabriel Agbonlahor heads home off some neat passing to equalize a Didier Drogba tap-in that came from John Terry controversially clattering into keeper Thomas Sorensen. Drogba was brilliant throughout as Chelsea are top of the table.

Bolton 2 – 0 Liverpool
Gary Speed scores from a free kick just outside the penalty area and Ivan Campo heads off the bar and in for the Bolton win. The first goal came as Jose Reina was judged to have handled the ball outside the area, although replays showed he released the ball in the box. Bolton jump to second as the Reds fall to ninth before Sunday’s results.

Charlton 1 – 2 Arsenal
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s nice cross finds Darren Bent for a tap-in and a 1 – 0 lead. But Arsenal fight back with a lovely chip from Alexander Hleb to Robin van Persie who scores his first. His second comes from a wonderful Emmanuel Eboue’s cross and is and absolutely unbelievable volley that takes the Gunners up to 7th with a game in hand.

Athletic de Bilbao 1 – 3 Barcelona
Fran Yeste volleys home for a fabulous goal, but Bilbao are reduced to ten for a soft foul on Eidur Gudjohnsen in the 20th. In the 45th plus one, Gudjohnsen puts in a lovely cross that Carles Puyol tips home to draw even before the break. In the 61st Xavi Hernandez beautifully plays in Gudjohnsen and the Icelandic international one touches home for the lead. Barca save the best for last as a string of passes that begins with Ronaldinho, ends with Javier Saviola firing home for the third.
