epl-laliga-afa-seriea.jpgA fun weekend of domestic football ends with Manchester United being passed at the top in England. Portsmouth are the new darlings of the Prem.

Barca gives away nothing, but Valencia and Sevilla keep pace in La Liga.

Roma and Palermo both remain perfect in Serie A.

And Boca draws in Buenos Aires, ending their incredible 12 match winning streak, leaving San Lorenzo’s record of 13 in-a-row intact.

Here are the scores, comments, and videos from the featured matches.

Saturday:

Deportivo La Coruna 2 – 0 Villarreal
A double from Left-back Joan Capdevila and one from the bird? For a long stretch of the second half, a seagull swooped the pitch and landed frequently in view of the camera. As play made its way upfield, the football bird would run surprisingly fast away from play. One particular close-up of the seagull prompted GolTV announcer Ray Hudson to exclaim excitedly, “There he is. Man of the match.”

Inter Milan 1 – 1 Sampdoria
Inter continues to have problems.

Sunday:

Chelsea 1 – 0 Liverpool
Chelsea continues Premier League dominance over the Reds. But an air of irony builds each time, knowing that Benitez’s Liverpool owns the Blues when something other than EPL points are at stake.

Manchester United 0 – 1 Arsenal
Ronaldo gets caught in possession and might have done better to try and stay on his feet as his mistake leads to a late Arsenal winner. Once Chelsea gets rolling, will this be Fergie’s last glimpse of the top for this season?

West Ham 0 – 2 Newcastle
Carlos Tevez hits the crossbar and the clock-watching will begin. How long will it be before the Argentina superstars have an impact?

Tottenham 0 – 0 Fulham
Spurs one-tainted-breakfast-from-greatness season is starting to seem like a long time ago.

Valencia 2 – 0 Getafe
Fernando Morientes now has one more goal than appearances with five. More of what you’ve come to expect from the Spanish international.

Sevilla 3 – 2 Real Bettis

Siena 1 – 3 Roma
Roma stays perfect after two.

Livorno 1 – 0 Fiorentina
At -19 to start, two losses out of the gate is no way for Fiorentina dig their way out.

Lazio 1 – 2 Palermo
Lazio’s -11 is still intact.

Parma 0 – 2 AC Milan
AC Milan’s -8 is almost gone already. Two quick wins put them at -2 and only 8 behind the leaders.

Independiente 0 – 1 San Lorenzo
San Lorenzo pulls even with Boca and River. Andres Silvera’s fifth of the season was a lovely strike, but his goal celebration was even better. Out of respect for his former team, he only put his face in his hands while his teammates mobbed him. A nice gesture.

Boca Juniors 0 – 0 Godoy Cruz
Boca loses their winning streak and their sole possession of first. Rough start for new manager Ricardo LaVolpe.

Gimnasia Jujuy 1 – 2 River Plate
Belluschi on 42 and a 93 minute winner by Nicolas Domingo put River at the top with Boca and San Lorenzo.
