In the featured match of the day, Manchester United played well enough to take full points for the fourth game on the trot while Tottenham will surely rue missed opportunities from Jermain Defoe and Mido.

Both had open headers in front of United keeper Edwin van der Sar, but were unable to put their shots on goal.

The Red Devils lone goal came on a strikingly odd free kick where Spurs opted for no wall in front of Ronaldo from 40 yards. The Portuguese international sent a blistering shot on goal that keeper Paul Robinson was unable to wrap up and Ryan Giggs headed off the bar and in, for his first of the season.

Although Tottenham were worthy of a point, United looked dangerous throughout with Ronaldo particularly brilliant on the wing.

United are top of the table, two points clear after four.
