Carlos Tevez West Ham Debut

September 10, 2006

West Ham 1 – 1 Aston Villa

west-ham-united-shirt.gifCarlos Tevez looked dangerous nearly every time he touched the ball, but was unable to help the Hammers break through for a second goal against Aston Villa.

Tevez came on after 60 minutes and immediately had a nice run, but his most dynamic moment would come late, as he turned Villa defender Martin Laursen inside out, darted past, and crossed wonderfully. West Ham were caught flat-footed as no one followed the play and the ball rolled harmlessly through the penalty area.

In the dying moments, Carlitos has another sharp run from the corner of the penalty area, but was unable to link-up with his teammates who often seemed to be expecting the Argentine to shoot rather than to pass.

Javier Mascherano, who came to West Ham from Corinthians with Tevez, did not feature.

West Ham fans were very appreciative of their new signings, cheering both players any time they warmed up on the sidelines.

And when Tevez entered the match, the atmosphere was electric with anticipation.

Their new striker lived up to the expectations with only a goal missing from his thirty minutes of playing time.
