Jose Mourinho was clear that Chelsea would not be signing former France goalkeeper Fabien Barthez.
But the Blues boss was ambiguous about the type of keeper Chelsea would be signing.
The enigmatic Mourinho seemed to be saying Chelsea needed a third-in-line goalkeeper by calling Barthez “high-profile.” But he also stressed that Chelsea would need to “replace Petr Cech,” making it seem a first-choice keeper would be preferred.
Whether Carlo Cudicini or Hilario have a shot to be first-choice keeper was not made clear.
Fabien Barthez announced his retirement just a few weeks ago.
