Juan Riquelme Argentina Star Retires from International Soccer

argentina-soccer-ball.gifArgentina midfielder Juan Riquelme announced his retirement from International football today.

The 28 year-old Villarreal superstar cited his mother’s health issues and criticism of his World Cup performance.

Riquelme’s mother has been hospitalized twice since the World Cup for an unspecified illness.

Riquelme has been heavily criticized, along with former manager Jose Pekerman, for Argentina’s early exit at Germany 2006.

Riquelme said he was firm in his decision, stating “I’ve made up my mind.”
