Ruud Van Nistelrooy Three Goals for Real Madrid

September 11, 2006

real-madrid-soccer-ball.gifRuud Van Nistelrooy got his La Liga career off to an amazing start yesterday with three goals as Real Madrid buried Levante 4 – 1.

The former Manchester United striker’s first goal was vintage Ruud. With back to defender, Van Nistelrooy controlled, turned, and fired as the Levante defense was left with little do to but admire.

Van Nistelrooy’s second goal had the sweet touch of the old Man U link-up with David Beckham providing a perfect header to Van Nistelrooy, who chested down brilliantly and tapped in off his shin.

After missing a penalty that seemed to deny the new Real Madrid superstar his hat-trick, Van Nistelrooy took a beautiful ball from Cicinho in the 90th minute and deeked the keeper, lifting over and in from 12 yard out.

Lost in the Van Nistelrooy hat-trick was the spectacular second goal off a stunning 70-yard pass from David Beckham onto the foot of the speeding Antonio Cassano. The finish wasn’t as pretty in that Cassano’s first attempt deflected back off his arm. Persistence paid off as the Italian striker stayed focused and fired a lovely strike just inside the far post.

Boca Juniors Match Cancelled

September 11, 2006

boca-juniors-soccer-ball.gifIn an odd turn of events, the match between Boca Juniors and Gimnasia of La Plata was suspended when referee Daniel Gimenez claimed he was threatened by the Gimnasia club president.

What the threats were, and all other juicy details have not been released.

No matter what was said, it was certainly bad timing as Gimnasia, 15th in the table, were leading unbeaten Boca 1 – 0 at halftime.
